Performance

The SIM MAX driver was tested head-to-head with the SIM MAX at the same loft and the same shaft. It was easy to compare the different models. Most notable was the more expensive launch. Although the SIM MAX launched lower than the SIM MAX, I was able to see it launch in my normal window. Similarly, the SIM is low spin, the SIM MAX is mid spin.

SIM MAX has a greater forgiveness rate than SIM. In general, the SIM MAX was slightly faster and had better accuracy. The SIM MAX gave me better results with my poor swings.

One feature that is new to the SIM driver family is Progressive Face Heights. TaylorMade studied the relationship between impact location and handicap to design each driver with the appropriate sized faces. SIM driver, the smallest of the three drivers, is intended for the most skilled players. SIM Max D has an 18% bigger face, while SIM Max D’s is 8.8 inches larger. The difference between the SIM Max and SIM Max D faces is evident, so players need to consider their visual preferences before choosing one of these clubs.

As to whether the SIM MAX is a substantial upgrade over last year’s M6, my answer is “No” (M6 driver review HERE ). The drivers were both excellent – they are friendly and forgiving, but I don’t see anything in the SIM to make it an essential upgrade for gamers who use the M6.

Taylormade Sim Max Driver Review – Cutting-Edge Forgiveness

Paul Club Reviews, Golf Product Reviews and Comments No Comments. This review covers the TaylorMade SIM Max driver.

SIM Max is equipped with the same high-tech technologies, the Inertia Generator as well as an asymmetricsole. It has a bigger club face and a deeper center of gravity. This allows for more forgiveness and MOI.

How much is it more friendly than the SIM Max? What is the comparison with M6? It is worth the extra weight?

Taylormade Sim Driver Verdict

Although I thought the SIM model would win this review, I was wrong. Dare I say that it delivered exactly what it claimed. For my slower swing speed, the spin would sometimes fall too far.

The SIM Max was the only thing that really amazed me. I never caught one. The distance I was able to see from the SIM Max never fell, even though it had a very high spin rate (over 3000 RPM).

I never expected the middle driver of this range to perform so well without having to alter settings to lower spin. The Inertia Generator at the back certainly added to the flight of the ball without effecting spin.

The Inertia Generator’s angle and shape made it difficult for me to see an increase in swing velocity. My 20-degree angle with the Inertia Generator is not convincing. Yes, it may be proven in a TaylorMade lab or when DJ is swinging the club “in the slot”, but let’s be honest not everybody swings it perfectly every time so whether we’re all going to get the benefits it promises I’ll leave up to you.

Why This Club is My Choice

This club was on sale at the right time and Taylormade is a great brand. I bought it. They already have wedges that I own and I love them. I thought the driver might be as happy.

Although I was interested in purchasing the Callaway Mavrik, I decided to go with the SIM Max due to its price and the many positive reviews. It didn’t have as much range, and I, a hungry teenager, needed something that was long lasting.

Verdict

While the SIM’s name may not sound quite as powerful and memorable as its predecessor, M-Series, we have to admit that it has a beautiful appearance.

The new SIM Family is designed in a way that’s simply stunning. It seems to become more comfortable as you use the SIM.

This is by far the most popular driver in address. It contrasts beautifully with the carbon crown’s chalky white topline. It is amazing to see how such small changes can have such an impact on the eyes.

TaylorMade has a reputation for delivering exceptional performance when it is about drivers.

The slightly angled Inertia Generator did seem to increase my club speed slightly and both the SIM and SIM Max produced very promising numbers.

The SIM driver has a very low spin driver, which produced an excellent ball flight. However the SIM Max had a slightly higher spin driver and gave me more control.

The SIM Max was definitely more forgiving, but it was my favourite driver out of the two as it still gave me the distance I was out of a big stick.

Cons:

No major improvements over other models

Not much adjustability

The next steps in the journey forged by previous M drivers, the SIM Max and SIM Max drivers will be released in 2020. The speed injected twist face technology remains, as does the MOI sole weight – only it’s been implemented slightly differently this time. The focus of this review is the SIM Max, though the SIM is of course very similar, only with a smaller face and more adjustability.

We were immediately struck by the great design of this driver. It has had the bottom of its head redesigned a bit from the predecessor. Dark metallic colors have been combined to make a sleek, pleasing design.

TaylorMade states that the TaylorMade driver provides more forgiveness than ever and they have geometrially optimized it to enhance MOI. The idea is that the swing will be more aerodynamic, thus faster. Additionally, it has been engineered to launch slightly faster than other models.

TaylorMade was happy with the performance of the M drivers’ faces, and therefore no significant changes have been made in the speed-injected facial twist technology. We’ve all come to know that the ball rockets off of your face. It’s also designed to protect you from hitting the ball on areas of the face that can cause trouble. The ball also sounds amazing.

TaylorMade was able to raise ball speeds through the years. It’s clear that this is not a problem. The new soleweight seems to be a significant improvement, though it is still a powerful driver. However, most players may not notice any difference.

Final Thoughts

TaylorMade is a pioneer in golf club technology. SIM Max with its clever MOI weight, proven speed injection face, and striking aesthetic is a fantastic driver. Those who play at a high level – who think they would benefit from just that little bit of extra MOI and clubhead speed – may find great success with this club.

You can join the fun even if you are a higher handicapper. It may have been engineered for speed but the clubface can also be used to give you the best possible loft.

Do not expect to see a dramatic change in your TaylorMade M5/M6 if you have the SIM Max. But, rest assured this driver is top-quality.

We hope you enjoyed our TaylorMade SIM Max Driver Review.

You can deliver an aerodynamically-efficient driver while remaining forgiving, precise, quick off the face and spinning low. That is the holy grail.

* TaylorMade SIM drivers – FIRST LOOK!

To achieve this, TaylorMade had to completely alter the shaping of its drivers to give every golfer the complete package.

One of the biggest stories is improved aerodynamics. SIM stands for Shape In Motion.

Inertia Generator located on the sole stores a lot of weight down and to the back in your clubhead making it extremely forgiving. It also makes it easier to launch. TaylorMade decided that this design element should be rotated to increase clubhead speed and reduce drag.

They will perform well in all conditions, but once you get a hit, it is easy to fall for them.
