Walmart alone employs nearly 1.6 million people in the US. In order to maintain smooth operation, Walmart established policies to discourage staff absences or late arrivals.

  • Is there anything you should know about Walmart’s late-term policy? This is what I discovered after doing some research.
  • Walmart Late Policy In 2022
  • Walmart’s late policies are based on a points system. If a Walmart associate is 15 minutes – 2 hours late for their shift, they will get deducted 1/2 a point. Associates who are late to work by more than half the time receive 1/2 point. Associates who don’t turn up for work will get 2 points. Walmart associates will receive 5 points total before they are terminated.
  • Do you want to learn more about how Walmart’s point system works and what it means for Walmart associates. You can find all of the info I could!

What is the Walmart Point System?

Walmart has a point system that is designed to encourage associates not to be tardy or absent unexpectedly.

This was revised in 2019 with employees receiving a maximum of five points. Now, if an associate receives five points, they face termination.

Associates who don’t show up on their designated shifts or as planned will lose one point.

Additionally, those that leave shifts early might expect to receive half a point, while unexpected absences during the holiday period could result in a maximum of three points.

Walmart: How to Report an Absence/Lateness

To report an absentee or lateness, associates need to access the OneWalmart website. They can then register for absence through the appropriate portal.

Alternativly they may call 1-800-775-5944, or the nearest Walmart to inform the manager that you’re running behind.

If you’re feeling unwell you can view our guide on how you can call Walmart to report it.

How Many Absences Are Allowed In Walmart?

The Walmart point system explains that associates receive no more than three points when they have an unexpected absence during holiday shifts.

One point will be given to those who are absent during regular trading periods. Walmart considers an absence to be working less than 50% of a schedule shift.

An associate could be given up to five weeks leave depending on their absence.

You could have them absent for one holiday shift, and then two regular shifts. If they are unexpectedly absent from two holiday shifts, they will also face termination.

How Is Good Attendance Rewarded At Walmart?

As part of its updated attendance policy, Walmart also rewards associates for perfect or good attendance to incentivize consistency and dependability.

Every quarter, both part-time Walmart workers and full-time Walmart employees will be eligible for higher cash bonuses.

Workers with excellent attendance records receive an additional 25% of their regular quarterly bonuses. Those with one or two points may also still be eligible for an increased bonus.

Walmart’s quarterly bonuses are based on several factors. The main factor is store performance. In 2019, the year that attendance bonuses were introduced, hourly associates earned almost $800 million in bonuses.

Walmart: What is the best way to get in?

Whether or not you turn up to your shift late, Walmart employees will be expected to clock in for their shift using the GTA Time Clock app.

GTA Time Clock apps users only need to sign up with OneWalmart. They will be asked to enter a unique user ID and password to verify their identity.

Once logged in they will simply need to click “Clock In” and start their shift. They can also choose the appropriate “Clock Out”, “Meal End”, or “Meal Start” options if they already have a clock in.

  • Conclusion: Walmart Late Policy
  • Walmart’s late policy is based on a points system. Associate who arrive late or completely miss their shifts will be awarded up to 3 points. A maximum of five points per six-month period is allowed before an associate can be terminated.

This policy is intended to dissuade tardiness in employees. Walmart rewards employees who work on schedule. They offer quarterly bonuses with increased payouts to the few that have the most points.
