Callaway Mavrik Max Driver Review
Take a look
MAX, the largest of the MAVRIK driver head designs is the most popular. Because it technically has 460 cc legal limit, I used quotation marks. The head however makes it appear bigger.
The crown is curved towards the turf and has a straight topline. It has a strong, confident appearance. Although it is quite large, the Max does not feel heavy. Although the MAVRIK standard is a departure from Epic Flash’s shape, it looks very much like Callaway’s earlier generation of drivers.
Orange details: People seem to love or loathe it. Although I like it, Matt highlighted the fact that you can customize it according to your needs in his MAVRIK Sub zero review.
Fitters’ Take
Fitters’ Take is a new feature, which we’ll be adding to certain reviews. Club Champion Master Fitters will be sharing their opinions based on what they have seen during fittings.
Our fitter, Max, told us that Callaway MAVRIK MAX’s driver was going to have a “killer line-up.” Numerous other fitters (and their clients) also appreciated the new sound. The fitters were also impressed with the shape, one stating it’s the “best looking Callaway head” in some years.
Callaway Flash Face SS20 Technology received a strong endorsement from a fitter. The unique faces of each model’s lofts are designed to assist different types and kinds of misses, he stated. He stated that “we can fit every golfer into a MAVRIK driver.”
Callaway Mavrik Max Driver Review – Customized Experience
Paul Club Reviews Golf Product Reviews 14 Comments In this review, I’ll be looking at the Callaway MAVRIK MAX driver.
It has most of the features of the Standard MAVRIK, with the addition of two interchangeable weights that can increase MOI and introduce a draw bias.
So, how does the MAVRIK MAX hold up on the course? Should higher handicaps choose it over the other MAVRIK variants?

Callaway MavrikMax price $499 / BUY HERE Lofts: 9-10.5-12 Our Take: This is what happens when you purchase a supercomputer capable to generate 15,000-plus faces in just a few days. Mavrik Max becomes a reality. Mavrik Max, a highly-requested driver in GOLF’s player test, is highlighted by the Flash Face SS20 Architecture (made of an exotic FS2S titan) which’s sixg lighter than traditional materials. The red-hot face is paired with an aerodynamic crown and the company’s JailBreak Technology to improve ball speed and the overall efficiency of the clubhead. The sole’s weight port is located at the back and heel of the sole. This allows you to either maximize slice-busting or give more forgiveness. It all depends on how the weight 14 grams are placed. Mavrik Max is a credible force within the driver category, having landed near the top of multiple performance categories during year 1. Mavrik Max was nearly a mile faster than all other drivers when he tested the club. He also ranked near the top for accuracy. It’s the kind of combination that should appeal to a wide range of handicaps, especially those who fight a slice.
ClubTester’s 16-hdcp: My slice disappeared suddenly, as did my horrible toe. This is almost cheating.
Robot’s perspective: For high-swing speed players, ball speed is important. For slower swingers, you can expect greater carry and draw bias.
Callaway Epic Max Vs Mavrik Max Driver Review & Comparison
Callaway likes to offer “max” versions of most of their drivers. Maximize means to get more. More forgiveness, greater launch height, or more features.
This is certainly the case with the Mavrik Max and the Epic Max LS which are built for high to mid handicappers looking for more consistency and forgiveness.
You may wonder what makes these Max drivers different if you’re considering one of them.
Both have a lot in common, so choosing between them can be difficult. This comparison will make it easier for you to decide.
Mavrik Max Vs Epic Max Ls Overview Both the Mavrik Max and Epic Max LS are designed to give more forgiveness and ball speed. We can attest to both of these points of emphasis.
The Mavrik Max and Epic Max LS both produced ball flight on even low shots.
Flash Face’s design, which is actually a slightly curvature at the forehead, makes this possible. This also helps keep spin low off the tee.
Evaluation
NEW FEATURES. Callaway had over 15,000 face designs tested in the design of last year’s Epic Flash. Callaway decided to make this year’s Mavrik line more efficient. Three new drivers were introduced by the company: the Mavrik, MavrikSub Zero, and the Mavrik max. They used their Flash Face SS20 architecture. It features a stronger but lighter FS2S Titanium for a slimmer face without compromising ball speed. An internal rib system reduces vibrations and enhances the feeling of “feel” when impact occurs.
DEFINING FEATURES. Callaway modified the aerodynamics for the Mavrik club head model, based on last year’s Epic Flash drivers models. The Jailbreak technology, which has two bars interconnected between the crown and sole to increase ball speed — is still in Mavrik. An additional feather-lite triaxial carbon crown elevates the moment of inertia and general forgiveness.
TRUTHS AND WEAKNESSES The Max (my preferred model) is considered the most forgiving with interchangeable weights in the sole to balance out forgiveness with your ability to draw. Because I am unable to draw, all my weight is on forgiveness.
COST AND VALUE – The Mavrik trio is available at a retail price of $500 and improves upon everything else in the Epic Flash. Great. Is it really worth the $500 price? Pebble Beach could be played every day. You would spend $182,500 on one-year. A Mavrik driver costs $500. You could buy it at $500 and have it used for 365 rounds. It would only run you $500. In that scenario, it’s a steal.
Last year’s Epic Flash driver is a good example of why it makes sense to get this model. Callaway’s driver tech has advanced so much in the last two years that I am betting on next year’s model.
That said, if you don’t currently own a Callaway driver and/or have never really tried one out, get to your nearest golf shop and try these three models. Check out the results. After 400+ driving sessions, I can tell you that there was no driver that I felt so good with. After being fitted with the correct shaft and driver head, as well as the right grip, I feel ready to strike bombs just like Phil Mickelson, but right-handed. I also hope to land on more fairways.
Eric Hart received equipment from the manufacturer for his review.
