Zyxel Ac1300, Mu-Mimo Dual Band Wireless range extender (Wre6606)

Our Zyxel A1300 MIMO Dual Band Wireless Range Expander (WRE6606). Use the Network settings to obtain an IP address automatically or to enter your own IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway information. Advanced Settings sections allow you to set up Power Schedules for your extender, to control when it turns on/off, to select coverage settings to save power, to enable Access Controls (Blacklists/Whitelists) and to activate the High Speed Mode. The 5GHz and 2.4GHz frequencies can be used for backhaul communications. Or, you can leave it set to Auto so that the extender will decide which frequency offers the most throughput performance according to its connection.

System Tools allows you to configure the time setting, the turn on/off of the LED lights, as well as update firmware. It also lets you back up your extender’s settings and logs. OneMesh allows you to use your RE220 and a compatible TP Link OneMesh router in order to establish a mesh network. This uses a single SSID, allowing you to roam freely from one room to another without needing to sign into an extended network. The TP-Link Cloud feature lets you remotely access the extender settings from anywhere via the internet.

Because of the large size, its four antennas and its four Ethernet ports, you could be mistaken for thinking that it was an extender rather than a router. To be honest, you can still use the RE9000 as a full router. But its primary purpose is to make a network fast from a router. It is compatible with the AC3000 standard which allows for the fastest non Wi Fi 6 variants and includes four Ethernet ports. This makes it ideal for offices and garages with multiple devices that require internet access. It can also extend wired and wireless connections. The model is quite expensive: It was our most expensive choice.

You get what you pay for, though: we found that it was the fastest of the extenders that we tested, handling a 4K video without breaking a sweat and offering upload and download speeds of just over 200 Mbps during testing. It’s much faster than other extenders we tried.

However, it’s important to note that you’ll only see this kind of speed if the RE9000 is twinned with a router that supports the same AC3000 standard (we’ll talk about these standards, in a moment).

Great speed Excellent signal strength across distances Large and bulky.
