Your next step will be to actually take the application in person to your nearest Post Office. Do this as you need to talk to the postmaster at that location.
Another area in your application to be cautious about is the identification portion.
A homeless person’s eligibility is more difficult than a non-homeless applicant because it recognizes how hard it can be for those with ID to get one.
You must also meet the following requirements if you apply for a homelessness-related PO box:
A valid form (state-issued identification, driver’s licensing, passport etc.) of ID must be present. ).
You don’t need a valid ID to prove your identity.
For the Post Office, you have an acceptable point of contact (yours or someone in your family’s mobile phone or email address).
A trusted friend or place of employment may be used. Your social services office might also provide a number.
If the Post Office has been given one contact point, such as the number of a friend, and then you lose access to that phone number, the Postmaster must be notified.
If you’re approved, you will be assigned a box and given a key. Some post offices, especially those that are busier, offer 24-hour access to their lobby and can also use PO boxes.

Your USPS PO Box Free Application was Denied
An application to receive a USPS PO box free of charge might not be granted for one reason or another.
First, the Postmaster cannot approve an application if the applicant doesn’t meet all the requirements.
The Postmaster may not approve your application if there is no contact person.
A denial would also apply if the applicant doesn’t possess an ID or isn’t recognized by the Postmaster.
Or, an application denial could be that the Post Office doesn’t have any available PO boxes. If this happens and your city has multiple addresses, you might be eligible to apply for a new one.
Still, if that’s inconvenient or would cause undue hardship, there’s another option outside of a PO box so that you can access mail (see below).
What If A Homeless Person Doesn’t Meet Requirements For A Free PO Box?
There are still options for homeless people who don’t have the means to get a PO box. For example, the Postmaster can instead set them up with General Delivery.
General Delivery, however, is available to all types of customers with different lifestyles.
With General Delivery, the Post Office holds mail at one of its locations for customers to come in and retrieve.
General Delivery is more convenient than a PO box, but PO boxes can still be found at anytime, while General Delivery is available only during regular retail hours.
General Delivery, which is still free to homeless people, can be used while you wait for your PO box to become available.
