American Postal Service (USPS) has long been known for its ability to travel through snowstorms monsoon and heat waves in order to deliver their mail.
Despite changes to the leadership team and budget reforms, USPS always delivers our mail and other packages to our mailboxes.
How do USPS deliver to your home?
Some Americans may find it difficult to get their mail because they have mobility issues.
A few things are required to obtain USPS regular mail delivery to your house.
One example is a mailbox located on the other side the street from the home, which can be dangerous for anyone in a wheelchair.
This could include someone with chronic, debilitating pain who lives in an apartment on ground floor that has a central mail center.
For your request to be granted, not only must you fill out the form but also need to send a note from a doctor.
The USPS website also states “…you need to write a letter requesting this change.” So you should also include a personal statement attesting to the need for door delivery.
After you have all the documents together, send them to the postal office which will deliver your mail.

You can also try sending an email, but that will take longer to get a response.
You will receive a response once the documents have been submitted. Each postal office takes the responsibility for the household on the route.
It is possible for the USPS to deny your request if you reside with another person, even if it is a medical emergency.
The assumption is that there’s someone in your family who would be able and able enough to receive the mail.
However, if you feel that USPS should make an exception in your case, and you can give them proof for why, you are within your rights to contact them and make your argument.
What are the requirements for a hardship delivery from USPS
USPS requires that you can demonstrate an illness or disability to be eligible for hardship delivery.
This can be a positive thing for you – it will mean that all conditions must be met, as long as they are legal.
You can also prove your legitimacy by attaching a note from your doctor attesting that you have immobility problems.
USPS stipulates that your letter must be written by you, detailing your disability or illness, as well as explaining any hardships it causes for mail retrieval.
Is USPS able to deliver your apartment door?
As a rule, the USPS will not deliver mail every day to apartments.
But, for those with disabilities and illnesses, it is possible to have difficulty retrieving your belongings from an apartment.

You can leave your package with other mail if you have enough space in your mailbox.

The less likely that your package is lost, the more problems the post office can deal with.
Carriers will locate the best place to put it in an apartment or neighbourhood with centralized mailbox areas.
Furthermore, mailboxes placed in foyers will make it easier for people to see and leave them.
The mail carrier may use their best judgement if there are several mailboxes located outside of a roadway, such as in a caravan park. That might mean bringing packages to individual doors.
There is one thing you should know before the parcel leaves your house: the signature required for delivery.

The carrier will take those items back to the postoffice. They will also leave a note that they tried to get a signature, but nobody was there.
What will the USPS deliver to an elderly person’s door?
USPS can deliver to elderly people only after they apply and are approved for hardship delivery.
Many residents in their 80s and beyond are perfectly capable for retrieving their mail every single day.
USPS will not automatically switch to door delivery once a certain age has passed.
What can you tell USPS to do with a parcel?
USPS now provides Delivery Instructions Service. This allows the recipient to online arrange for delivery and whereabouts of eligible mailpieces.
Instructions can be included if the item you are sending is considered eligible. This could include asking that mail be left at a particular location within your home, such as behind a bush near your porch.
The post office can hold it until you are able to retrieve it.
Or, it can be routed to someone else’s home, such as your neighbor or friend.
Per the USPS Delivery Instructions FAQ page, you can also upgrade the mailing class or request extra services.
Does USPS First Class Deliver To Your Door?
First class mail can be described as “regular”, which is items that arrive in mailboxes equipped with stamps such as most letters and bills.
USPS doesn’t deliver first-class mail by default to your home.
It will be delivered to your mailbox as the default setting.
Unfortunately, only able-bodied people cannot have first-class mail sent to their home.
In order to receive that mail at the door and bypass the mailbox, you would have to have an existing illness or handicap.
After that, you need to complete the application for a hardship delivery exclusion.
Is Priority Mail USPS Mail Delivered to Your Door?
Priority mail can arrive at your doorstep if it is tracked by you as the recipient and you select the Delivery Instruction option.
You may then request that the carrier leave the item at the door.
Mail carriers are required to place Priority mail in their mailboxes if possible.

USPS mail is not delivered to residential addresses. It will be left in the appropriate mailboxes, which is their default.
