Best Metal Detector For Gold Nugget
What is the Best Metal Detector for Gold?
Are you looking to search for gold? You can locate that mysterious gold nugget with the right equipment. It is important to choose the right equipment for gold prospecting. This is different from treasure hunting for coins and jewelry. If you are looking to locate gold nuggets or flakes, read on.
If you’re looking for large quantities buried gold bullion coins and coins, You might be looking for a two-box or deep-seeking metal detector such as the one shown below:
Finding gold requires time and effort. Many of the best gold producing regions are remote and cover large expanses of land. While the work can seem daunting, the rewards could be much greater. Start by searching many areas to find your first signal. You should stop searching once you’ve found the first golden nugget. This will allow you to explore more of the surrounding areas.
Nuggets are often found in small groups. The likelihood of finding a single nugget of golden nugget in a group is high. A search pattern can be used to find gold with a metal detector. Methodically covering the area in a grid-like pattern will permit you to thoroughly search the area for gold. No matter what gold detector you are using, it is important to completely cover the entire area.
This activity has been going on for centuries. The tools have improved over the years, but it’s still not easy to find gold with a detector. Look for places that were known to be rich in gold production. Untapped areas are often difficult to find gold. There are metal detectors for all types of terrain regardless of your skill level or knowledge.
There are many reasons that detectorists look for gold. While it may seem like a pastime for many, others see it as a way to make money. There are many motivations to search for and retrieve gold. One of the main reasons detectorists search for gold is that they enjoy finding things that others have never found. This may sound simple, but there is no doubt that this is one of the main motivations behind gold hunting. With a little research, you can find the best metal detector for gold to suit your needs. Here are some factors to think about before you buy your gold metal detector.
Our Gold Metal Detector Reviews
Minelab CTX3030 Best Overall Metal Detector For Gold Weight: 5.8 lbs
The Minelab CTX-3030, the best all-around gold detector available today, is frequency: 1.5 kHz – 100 kHz. Waterproof: up to 10 feet. Warranty: Limited 3 year. This detector is loaded with all of the features that are important for finding gold. Because of its ground-balancing capabilities, the CTX is able to run in almost any type of ground mineralization. Minelab’s FeCo Discrimination can be used to help identify gold targets that you should dig. This will save time and effort in digging up other metals. A metal detector should have high sensitivity in order to detect gold nuggets. In a gold detector, you should also have deeper detection depth.
One of the best parts about the CTX-3030 is that not only can you use it with great effectiveness for gold, but it also excels at all other types of metal detecting as well! Many preset search modes and the ability to switch search coils for your needs give this metal detector excellent versatility, putting it ahead of many other gold metal detectors on the market today. When gold prospecting, we detectorists often have to get into the water. You can swim up to 10ft with the CTX-3030, making it a unique gold detector. I find it very comforting to know that my detector will run rain or shine.
It is difficult to stay out for long periods of time when gold hunting. However, the Minelab CTX-3030’s ergonomic design and fatigue-saving features make this a non-issue. In terms of ergonomics, Minelab developed a metal detector that will help keep you out in the field longer, with less fatigue.
Additional bonus: Wireless headphones available are a wonderful addition. In my opinion, there is nothing more irritating than getting tangled up in corded headphones while detecting.
It is a very powerful machine that can be used for many purposes. The average detectorist will find it to be quite light. Despite that, I will say that it might not suit detectorists with smaller statures. You might also consider the Fisher Gold Bug Garrett AT Gold, which is lighter for children, women and older detectorists (more information below).

Frequency 19 kHz Warranty 5 year limited The Fisher Gold Bug gold detector is powerful but affordable. For those who don’t have the capital to invest in a high-end detector, but still want an entry-level option for gold prospecting or aren’t looking for a heavy metal detector, then the Gold Bug might be the right choice.
Fisher Gold Bug comes equipped with a 5″ DD search coil that will detect the smallest nuggets of gold. This search coil option is different from other competitors and may be beneficial or detrimental to each detectorist depending on how they hunt.
If you are looking for a more powerful search coil, don’t worry. There are still other options. Side note: in areas where I typically metal detect for gold, I often use the largest search coil I can find, as there is minimal trash.

Frequency of Operation
Your detector’s operating frequency is a crucial factor in VLF (very low frequency) metal detections. This determines the performance of your machine in different situations. Many metal detectors are equipped with a standard operating frequency. Some models include adjustable frequencies. This allows you adjust the frequency of your detector to best suit your prospecting trip.
While a high frequency can provide the maximum depth, it could not find small gold nuggets. High frequencies will provide you with less depth. However they may be more likely to pick up smaller nuggets. This can present a challenge when trying to compare detectors. Though greater depth is desirable and more sensitive are equally important, the two things are directly related.
It is difficult to know if your VLF metal detector should operate at a higher frequency or a lower one. This depends on what area of gold prospecting you are in. Some areas are known to have many small nuggets, whereas other areas may have larger nuggets that may be deeper in the ground. Multi-frequency metal detectors can be a very effective way of bridging the difference between lower and higher frequencies. Adjustable frequencies allow you to program the gold metal detector to the best possible combination of strengths for your needs.
Steve’s Guide to Gold Nugget Detectors, Updated August 20,21
Just a few words about recent happenings in the metal detector business before I get started. Tesoro is a prominent manufacturer who was lost some years ago. This resulted in the Tesorolobo superTRAQ being removed. One of the industry’s true stalwarts was lost in 2020.
Garrett purchased White’s Electronics back in October. At this point, it is not clear what that means. However, I have removed the White nugget detectors as they are no longer new and under warranty. Check out my details reviews for more information about White’s products.
Fisher F19, Fisher Gold Bug Pro ($449/19 kHz) This detector has more features than the Fisher Gold Bug Pro. You will find a high-quality threshold-based, all metal mode as well as dual tone discrimination. The F19 has both ground grab and manual ground balance, plus adjustable tone break, just like the Gold Bug Pro. Extra features are added to enhance the coin, relic, and jewelry capability, such as notch discrimination with adjustable notch width, volume control, separate ferrous tone volume, and a LCD meter backlight. They may also prove useful when gold prospecting. The Fisher F19 can use any Gold Bug compatible coils plus those made for the Teknetics G2 series, providing for a huge number of possible accessory coils. It can come with either a 7″x11″, or a 5″x10″, DD, coil. The detector weighs in at 2.6 pounds, including one 9V battery.
Steve’s opinion – First Texas, a manufacturer of Bounty Hunter, Fisher, Teknetics, and Teknetics, is known for selling a number of nearly identical detectors, sometimes under very different model and brand names. A marketing strategy that is not quite right can make it so some models with higher capabilities are available for lower prices than others. The 19 kHz Gold Bug is often a more expensive model, but you can find cheaper versions of the same or even better models under different names. It is also the case for the Fisher F19 19-kHz models, and the Bounty hunter Time ranger Pro identical model. Let’s just say this. For less than $500, you can get a Fisher F19 with a 5″ by 10″ elliptical coil from a legit dealer. It’s my recommendation as an outstanding entry level VLF detector that has general-purpose capabilities. I recommend this detector over the Fisher Gold Bug and Gold Bug Pro models below, not only because of the extra capability, but because it can be had stock with the 5″ x 10″ DD coil, the best general nugget hunting coil for the FT 19 kHz series. This accessory coil is only available on Gold Bug models. It will increase their out-of-pocket cost. The Minelab X-Terra 705 is $50 cheaper and offers a deluxe set that includes additional jewelry-detecting and coin-sensing features.
Fisher Gold Bug (499.00, 19 kHz), – The Fisher Gold Bug is a newer model that runs faster than its predecessor and features full LCD target identification. You can use the Gold Bug for many purposes, including nugget hunting. This model normally comes with a 5″ round DD coil to enhance the sensitivity to small gold but other stock coil options are available. Gold Bug has an “Grab”, ground balance function that is easy to use. Do not confuse this detector with the Gold Bug Pro (see below), a nearly identical detector that adds a manual ground balance control. With a single 9V lithium battery, the detector weighs 2.5 pounds. There are many accessory coils for the Gold Bug.
Steve’s opinion – The basic 19kHz model used to be desirable due to it’s affordable price. Today, it is possible to get the Fisher F19 for less with a much better coil and greater capabilities. Pass.
Minelab X Terra705 Gold ($499, 3, 7.5, 18.75 kHz), – This detector boasts a distinctive design. The standard unit has a 5″ x10″ DD 18.75 kHz coil. You can also purchase accessory coils at 3. kHz or 7.55 KHz. The coil can be changed to change the frequency. This detector is suitable for many types of metal detecting such as jewelry, coins and gold nuggets. Weight including four AA batteries 2.9 lbs. The X-Terra705 can be equipped with over ten accessory coils (Minelab, Coiltek).
Steve’s Opinion – The X-Terra 705 is my favorite. You can use the all-metal Prospecting Mode to make your job easier. The X-Terra 705 offers both ground tracking and manual ground balance; I like having both options. Its compact, lightweight design is what I love. Its many other features, however, are what sets the X-Terra 705 apart. The X-Terra 705 is a good choice for somebody who wants all the coin and jewelry detecting options important to urban detectorists. It offers more options for tone and discrimination than other detectors. The machine is for those who want the highest quality detectors but also have the ability to prospect with a high-quality detector. 2021 Note – a new lower internet price of $499 (down from $699) makes this detector an alternative to the Fisher F19 above. $50 less, the X-Terra has many more bells and whistles, including target tone id options, for the coin-, jewelry-, and relic-hunter.
Nokta/Makro Gold Racer (509, 56kHz) — The Gold Racer has been based upon the Racer design released in February 2015. The Gold Racer at 56 kHz was unique when released in having all the features normally associated with coin and relic detectors yet it’s running at a very high nugget detecting frequency. This makes the detector more useful than a specific nugget detector. Gold Racer has a 10″x5″ DD coil with three accessories. With four AA battery batteries, the weight is 3.0 lbs.
Steve’s Opinion – I like the Nokta/Makro Gold Racer as it really is something new instead of just another mid-frequency do-it-all detector. The compact lightweight design appeals to me as does the high frequency sensitivity to small gold nuggets. The machine can handle a high frequency (large) coil (15″ x 13 1/2″ DD) and also has a concentric option. Best of all it offers a full range of discrimination features not seen in other high frequency nugget detectors, all at a very aggressive price. A close examination is recommended, especially for large coils.

Best Metal Detectors For Gold Nuggets & Flakes (2021). Reviews & Buyer’s Guide
Are you looking for golden nuggets to hunt? It’s important to have a metal detector capable of handling harsh ground conditions if you do. Here are eight great metal detectors for gold.
Gold prospecting with a metal detector is a popular hobby – and it’s easy to see why.
It is also very profitable and fun. Many people who have the “bug” of prospecting say that it takes up most of their time.
However, finding the right detector for you to find gold is crucial, even though it may seem like a different task than searching for coins or other relics. Most detectors can’t handle the tough environments where gold is located, so it’s important to carefully consider which model to buy.
What should you look for in a gold detector though? There are many expensive models out there, so how can one make the right choice?
Be aware of your budget – Gold detectors are expensive. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you should spend $8000 to get a Minelab of high quality. In some cases, a less expensive model might be just as efficient. You can find my best models in this price range here.
Choose High-Frequency or Pulse Induction Technology. These metal detectors have both advantages and disadvantages. The choice of which type to use depends on your needs. They are not sensitive enough to pick up small quantities of gold, so they should be avoided.
The Detector Has the Ability to Handle Mineralization. Gold is commonly found in soil that has high levels mineralization. It can be a problem for detectors with regular detections as it causes a lot too much chatter. This should be possible with a gold detector.
Get a Detector With Manual Ground Balance – Having the ability to manually adjust the ground balance of your machine is important when hunting in tough locations.
What is The Best Gold Nugget Locator?
Because it’s one of the top nugget detection systems in the world, the Garrett ATX is our favorite choice. This detector can be used in all conditions and terrains.
Which metal detector can detect gold?
Are Metal Detectors able to Find Gold? The two main types of gold-hunting detectors that are currently available include the VLF (very low frequency) and the PI (pulse induction). VLF detectors which can find small quantities of gold are more sensitive than others because they operate at a higher frequency.
Can Metal Detectors Detect Only Gold?
Many of these people are experienced prospectors, who are familiar with the basics of how metal detectors work to locate gold. … Metal detectors are not limited to finding gold. There is a good explanation for this and that reason is because when you are metal detecting for gold, you want to dig everything.Jul 12, 2021
