Falken Wildpeak A/T3W All-Terrain Tire Review

When you think of off-road tires, Falken is probably not the first brand that comes to mind. However, Falken is trying to change people’s perceptions quickly. Falken Wildpeak A/T3W, is just one example of how they hope to change that perception.

Falken actually only got into the offroad light truck market when it introduced its WildpeakA/T in 2014. It was then that it developed a competition version of the Wildpeak A/T. Tony Pellegrino took second place at the King of the Hammers in 2014. Falken Wildpeak, an all-weather truck tyre, has been unveiled. They were sent to us late last summer, and they have been tested through winter. Here is Falken’s Wildpeak AT3W Review after several months of testing.

Before getting to the impressions, let us take a quick look at how Falken Wildpeak AT3W is rated by its manufacturer in the tire performance chart.

Dry handling: 4/5

Water Breaking: 4.5/5

Life of : 4/5

Ride Comfort: 3.5/5

Discussion Starter After much debate, I finally settled on Falken Wildpeak AT3w (P265/75R16). The thread below is meant to be an “in-depth review”, as these are newer products.

Wildpeak has a claim to be a mixture of an AT and MT tire. I chose Wildpeak because they are perfect for my needs. Although I don’t use my truck daily, a full-on MT tire is not necessary. However, I have encountered sticky situations on my trips. The larger tread lugs claim to clear mud better than an AT, and looking at these tires I believe it. The sidewall of these tires is aggressive, large and muscular. It fills well into the wheelwells. Falken claims it has the best initial tread depth of any manufacturer in its class, so it could also explain why it appears a little more filled than comparable sized BFG’s.

These tires were also a good choice because they are well-reviewed as winter tires, which is a big plus north of 49. 3w stands for winter-wear and weather. Falken also offers a 55,000-mile tread life guarantee, which seems pretty good for an AT tire. You’ll also find some cool tech on the sidewalls. While it may be hyped, the sidewalls could prove to be reliable. You can check it out for yourself at WILDPEAK A/T3W TIRE

While looks can be important, tires should have traction when they meet the road. It literally bucketed rain here today all day, so I got to test the wet part of the name on the drive home. I believed them after a few simulated panic stops as well as one that was real on brand new and soaking wet asphalt. They stopped my Frontier with no hesitation and I was able to relax by laying down brakes. The same thing happens in corners. It was impossible to get them loose even with heavy acceleration. The BFG’s would make an easy chirping sound, however they were already cooked. I also never had them new. Although the BFG’s are 10 ply and the Wildpeaks only P-metric, I can still compare apples to apples. The Falken’s helped my truck rev up faster. I might even see a little increase in MPG.

It was not something I had the opportunity to do, however, it did allow me to maneuver them around some nice corners.

Although it is quite low for an aggressive tire, the road noise is very minimal. I don’t mind a little tire howl, and I usually have the music up loud for the times when the girlfriend’s less tolerant ears are in the truck.

They’ve only covered 25km so far. I am impressed. These seem like a great tire at a terrific price. Kelowna Lexus deserves a shoutout for their amazing deal. My Saturday plans include a trip to the innawoods, where I hope I can get my feet out of bed on Saturday. I plan on trying to see what they think about a mix of wet and frozen rock, slushy and half-frozen mud. As I break them in, I will update this thread and give some new terrain to them.

These Falkens are great! I owned my first AT3W for nearly 2 years. I installed them Jan 16,’ as they were just released. The older Falken Wildpeaks AT01’s did not have the best standings in rain or snow/ice. Only a handful of A/T tires still do. At the time, I could not find information about these AT3W’s. I was unable to get any other info so I bought them.

Now that I have some feedback, here’s the best compliment Falken could give. I paid $$$ for my second set of AT3Ws about a week back because I couldn’t afford M/B without road hazards. Although they did not reach the full 55k mark (40k), it was still a great deal. The AT3W’s offer a lot of value, longevity and good manners that are hard to match. I decided to go with LT’s. Yes, they are stiffer but quieter on roads. My first set P’s has proven their worth countless times on rainy and muddy back roads.

I replaced the first set early because I figured with what I was saving it just made sense I needed 1 new tire due to a hole that I could stick my pinky in that’s what road hazard’s for lol it wasn’t tires fault but also had another rim that needed new valve and another that had tpms just quit so with winter coming I put them on.

A complete review and overview of the Falken Wildpeak At3W All Terrain Tires for 2Nd Gen Tacoma.

Tires come in so many different options that it can get confusing. An aggressive looking tire was what I needed to be able to commute with little noise and withstand the off-road abuse my tires were subjected too. For these reasons, I decided to go with an all-terrain tire, which is what I consider the middle ground between a highway tire (H/T) and a mud-terrain (M/T).
