In the average American family, no one wants to overspend on groceries. It’s not the hardest thing to do. But, we do our best to make it as easy as possible.
Is Aldi Cheaper Than Walmart In 2022?
Aldi may not be as cheap or cheaper than Walmart in certain areas, such as produce and seafood. Walmart, whose stores outnumber Aldi 2-to-1, has dropped prices on many of their store brand, Great Value, items. This has created instances where Aldi is not the cheapest, though usually, the difference is only a few cents.
Let’s start by breaking down the most commonly purchased grocery items. Then, let’s see what happens when these two meet.
To keep this simple, I followed a basic methodology.
Aldi’s and Walmart’s prices are subject to slight variations depending on where they live. Aldi doesn’t have an online price list except Instacart. In that case, it can add up. I used the Aldi price guide as well as receipts from the previous year.
Walmart.com had the following information: The address, and consequently the prices, were for a small town in the Great Lakes region.
I only compared the most popular items in grocery stores, using each store’s own label when possible and noting any differences where necessary.
In the absence of any other choice, I compare items by price per-ounce or pound.
The final note: Prices and availability are subject to change without notice in any country. This price list is an instant snapshot that I attempted to accurately capture and it is not intended to replace any official price lists.
It is not surprising that Aldi has beaten Walmart in a number of produce price categories.
While shoppers have complained that Aldi’s produce isn’t always up to par, the stores purportedly receive new shipments every day (and the stock gets rotated – oldest produce on the top).
*Note, Tyson is the only comparable brand of pork loin sold at Walmart.
Aldi outsells Walmart across all meat prices with the exception of seafood.
*Note: Walmart carries only Thomas brand bagel thicks.
Walmart does not sell their own brand of bagel thinners. I was forced to use Thomas’ brand instead. Walmart’s bagel thins are not as popular as if they had their own.
Aldi’s bread price wins in all except three categories.
Aldi’s specialty, vanilla flavored ice cream isn’t comparable to Walmart prices. Walmart makes their own.
However, this is what they sell that is comparable, and Aldi will save you two whole dollars! They are extremely popular.
Walmart maintains a competitive edge in the pasta/grains category. Aldi can even be beat for instant white Rice.
That said, if you eat a lot of rice and you have a rice cooker, the bag of Jasmine rice from Aldi is your best bet to save money over the long run.
Walmart offers a discount of a couple cents if you and your family love Triscuit knock-offs and chips. Aldi has been the winner of every category of snack here.
Walmart’s raw honey pantry category is the one that Aldi charges more than Walmart. However, this doesn’t surprise given Aldi’s post WWII history as an artisan grocer providing basic supplies for countries rebuilding from disasters.
Aldi makes it easy to get condiments, oils and other supplies at a very affordable price.
Aldi has a great price on essential baking ingredients, which is something you should appreciate if you are a frequent baker.
This is the best item. It’s 32 cents less than Walmart’s price for baking soda, which costs 50 cents.
It’s important that you remember that dairy prices are subject to fluctuation. Aldi beats Walmart every time, with the exception of a 1-cent difference for butter.

Aldi might not always be cheaper than Walmart. However, that should not discourage customers. Aldi will not charge you more per item if you aren’t cooking a meal with seafood, but you won’t notice a significant difference in the long-term.
Walmart stays competitive, though, with their Great Value store brand, and if you also need non-grocery items – office supplies, clothes, video games – you won’t do too badly to just make the one stop at your local Walmart Supercenter.
Aldi’s Is Cheaper Than Walmart
Aldi and Walmart both offer store brand products at a lower price than the name brands. Aldi however is a bit more affordable. The package from Walmart does include five more bags than Aldi, but the cost per bag is still the deciding factor.Nov 24, 2021
Aldi is it really that much cheaper?
All products in the shop are cheap. In fact, there are quite a few Aldi items that can be more expensive than the rest, as Reader’s Digest points. Aldi has a limited supply of brand-name items, which means that you will pay more. Sep 14, 2021
Walmart’s Price Does Aldi Match?
Walmart will price match competitors ads. This is a bonus that I want to mention. You should bring your Aldi Ad into Walmart. They will price match it at Walmart. October 11, 2020
Are Aldi Prices Going Up?
These rates have risen sharply since the pandemic. You can see that prices have risen sharply since the outbreak of the pandemic. They were already 3.7% cheaper in 2020 than 2019 for the same period. Dec 4, 2021
