The bottom line is that it was comfortable. We tested it and it worked well in our cribs. It is super comfy. There’s a lot you love about the Wovenaire crib mattress. But there are also some things that don’t work: latex, heavy coil springs and polyurethane foams. The mattress comes with a washable and highly breathable zip-off cover that Newton advises parents to use without a mattress protector or sheet, at least for the first few months to lower the risk of suffocation. Newton mattress’s edges are well-squared and fit perfectly into our testing crib. Newton claims the entire core can be recycled, but I’m not sure how you will manage to put it in your recycle bin. We purchased the Naturepedic Breathable crib mattress late last year for hands-on testing, and we think it’s truly amazing! Made in the USA, this organic mattress features high-quality materials. It has two sides (one on each side for babies and one side for toddlers), and can be ordered with either a core of coil springs and/or lightweight wavesupport. Instead of the wavesupport, polyethylene core, we chose the traditional coil core. The coil core has 252 springs, organic cotton padding, and an organic cover. Our experience shows that a coil core prevents mattresses from developing lumps or indentions over time. It also provides support throughout the life of the mattress, without worrying about off-gassing. Although they are heavier at 19 pounds and more costly, coil cores can be a good option. It meets Greenguard Gold and Greenguard GOTS certifications. The mattress also has seamless edges, square corners, excellent reviews, and is available in a variety of sizes. This mattress is hypoallergenic. The cover itself, not the springs, is organic. In our testing, we loved the breathable organic cotton cover that was extremely easy to remove and clean. Avocado does not include a waterproof or 3D mesh breathable covering. But it has a gorgeously quilted exterior and an entirely organic construction with Greenguard GOLD, GOTS, MADE SURE, GOLS and MADE SAFE certifications. Avocado came to our attention for testing. We were amazed by the quality of its construction and materials. It offers everything a discerning parent would want, including all the proper organic certifications, an organic coconut husk and latex core, a breathable surface and core, and a truly beautiful hand-made construction right here in the USA (California). Emily features a 150 spring coil core and organic wool overlaid with a cotton quilted cotton covering. You can keep it cool during the summer by combining the wool under-layer with little needle perforations. The mattress core is made of high-quality organic cotton batting and 150 coil innersprings. The mattress comes shipped flat, which is always our preference. We didn’t smell any odors from the mattress when it arrived in the box. This is due to the Greenguard Gold certification for low levels of chemical emissions. When we put it into the crib, it fit snugly into the edges and corners. You can breathe easily, are waterproof and dual-firm, and you’re MADE SAFE certified. This product is available for only $250 Sounds great! Lullaby Earth crib mattresses are very popular. The new Dual-firmness Crib Mattress is Greenguard and MADE SAFE, made from 100% recycled materials, low VOC emissions and extremely lightweight. This WaveSupport core uses the same WaveSupport material as Naturepedic. MADE SAFE Certification can be very persuasive. Not only does it require very low VOC emissions but they also have to pass a series of rigorous test regarding materials used in manufacturing. The toddler side of the mattress was more soft than the infant. It fits nicely into our DaVinci crib test. The corners of the mattress are nearly squared. Given the slightly rounded edges, there might be more risk of losing/dropping pacifiers into the corners. However, it is difficult to determine what certifications are maintained by the Nook. Second, the Avocado is a bit softer on the toddler side, likely due to the cozy wool layer they use. A waterproof cover was expected at the price. However, it’s very difficult to find a cover for organic crib mattresses. A removable cover is what gives the Avocado an advantage. Note that we can’t help be a little critical of the Nook because it’s twice the price of the Avocado, and frankly that seems a little steep when comparing features. The second is that it’s hypoallergenic as well as dust mite/allergen resistant. It is also non-toxic, and doesn’t contain polyurethane. The Newton Wovenaire uses a Polyester core. Greenguard GOLD-certified, it doesn’t contain vinyl, PVC or chemical flame retardants. This core can be recycled. You just need to cut it up into pieces and throw it away. Below the core is a layer called batting. It is composed of modacrylic, polyester, and other soft materials. What is modacrylic fiber? Modacrylic fiber is a synthetic acrylic fiber which is mildew resistant, hypoallergenic and extremely durable. The fourth feature is the amazing cotton cover. It has a waterproof vinyl-free liner underneath. This cover can be zipped on and taken off quickly and can also be machine washed. Because it includes both a waterproof liner at the bottom and a top of soft cotton, they call it the “hybrid cover”. We found the Babyletto Pure to be very soft and fitted perfectly in both our Babylettos and DaVinci Cribs. You can snuggle like a bug with no seams or edges. Each side of the bag was nicely shaped – one was very solid for a newborn, and the other was soft enough for a toddler. Cons? Well, a couple minor things. First, we felt the zipper of the cover was less quality than we liked. Second, we thought the cover would soon break. The zipper hasn’t been broken yet but it could.
